Nosework.
We have a Trials Regulations Subcommittee that continue to update the regulations.
They compare what is happening within overseas organisations, and how it can fit here, look at the results from our trials to see if the time allowed is realistic and aim to keep the regulations fluid enough that our Organisations can work with venues in their location.
We also have regulations for "Buried Hides" where the hide is either buried in sand or submerged in water, a very different challenge for teams.
Nosework, as a sport, is created to allow dogs to use their natural abilities to work in partnership with their handler and respond to specific target odours, in a variety of locations. Searches that are found in Nosework competitions are modelled on those of traditional working detection dogs; Interior, exterior, vehicle and container.
Each team are evaluated on their ability to search for, locate, and respond, to target odours. The primary focus is achieving a qualifying score by finding the odour in the time allowed for each search.
A number of ‘SSANZ’ Organisations have hosted Novice and Intermediate nosework trials throughout the North Island since 2019. The first South Island Novice trial was held in 2021. We now have Organisations hosting Advance nosework trials. These events wouldn’t be possible without our wonderful Organisations.
